MY FIRST DAY AT TSHWANE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
By: Vuyo Cebekhulu.
Everyone has experiences in Varsity, but not all of them are the same. My first day at Tshwane, I did not know anyone and it was so scary...
The way I imagined that it was going to be like actually did not turn to that way, there were kids from other provinces with different languages like; Tsonga, Venda, Sesotho, and many more of them. I was a bit scared because I knew no one and I was the only girl who came from Eshowe. So, my first day was kind of a funny one, I was late by 20 minutes for first class which I did not even know where it was located. I arrived at the gate and I forgot my face mask in my room, I quickly searched for someone selling them and I found this Tsonga speaking guy and I do not know the language so I pointed out and gave him R5.00.
As I entered the gate it was like I'm entering a new world. I did not even remember the directions so I went around asking people, "Where am I going to find the Journalism Block?" and they kept pointing where I should go. Posting pictures in a TUT FIRST YEAR GROUP was really helpful because I managed to notice a few faces in class although I was late with a girl called Lelethu who is also doing Journalism as a First year. So the lecturers introduced themselves to us and some of them explained to us about the course we chose and after an hour they left. I was so sleepy because I arrived late that day. Then a student assistant called Mandla showed us around up until the radio lab, that is where I started communicating with people, the first girl I talked to was Rethabile Fanya, I just loved how she did her hair, it was all colorful and lovely. After her I met many more and that is where I started chilling with them.
