INGOMA KA ZWELONKE BRINGING BACK THE CULTURE

The Ingoma kaZwelonke is a Zulu traditional dance festival that took place at People’s Park near Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on the 3rd of June 2023. People gathered at Moses Mabhida in their separate Zulu dance groups.
This festival is hosted every year around June, participants dress-up in their traditional Zulu attire and are grouped in different Zulu traditional dances. Famous Maskandi artists are also featured for performance.

The dances were performed, and it was a joyful play for everyone who was around.
The event also teaches about the celebration of Zulu culture and the Zulu history whereby each dance has a story to tell. Below is a Vox pop of people regarding the ingoma ka zwelonke.

Smukelisiwe Mbatha (28), said she loves what the Ingoma KaZwelonke is doing, honoring the role of amagoso in promoting the Zulu culture, history, and heritage through traditional dance.

Londeka Mathe (24), a third-year student at TUT said she enjoys watching the Zulu culture and learning more about it. The Ingoma kaZwelonke teaches us to not forget about our roots, where they come from.

Lindelwa Mbatha (20), student at creative arts college, said that she likes what she sees, that Zulu people are continuing to embrace their culture and it is the best thing.
There was a line-up of Zulu dance groups at the event, namely Qhawekazi team blue, ezikaKHULA, AmaNUF, and so on. People were able to celebrate, and the entrance fee was free which was helpful because everyone was able to enter and see the Zulu Cultural Event. Alcohol was restricted so that there can be no harm happening to others like unnecessary fights.
The Ingoma KaZwelonke 2023 is proof of rich and vibrant Zulu culture. It reminds people to never forget the importance of their culture and promotes the Zulu Tradition. Many people are looking forward to the following events as they enjoyed this one.
Numerous Maskandi artists also visited the area, such as Cevuzile Mchunu, Shwi nomtekhala, Qhosha Ngokwenzakwakhe, Khuzani Mpungose, Bahubhe, Dumakahle, DSD, Thokozani Langa, Ntencane, Jaiva, Sgwebo, Mgube, Mroza, and Imfezemnyama were performing at ingoma ka Zwelonke 2023.
